Murder Mystery

So I had meant to post about this topic a few days ago, as I was heading to a Murder Mystery last night and wanted to hear from people who had maybe been to one before.

But I never got round to it so instead I'm just going to do a short post about popping my Murder Mystery cherry.

So first off this is not the kind of thing I would normally sign up for; guess roll play isn't my thing
But this one was being organised by a friend from her college course so a group of us went along to support her.
Prior to the night of the event we were sent out a brief outline of the scenario and who the characters were and some outfit suggestions.

The way it was going to work was 6 main characters/suspects and in the email we were told which character our group would be associated with; now obviously you can't have 6 of each character running around that would just get confusing so they made it that we would pick a group leader and they would be the main character and the rest of us were supporting the role but had all the information when questioned for example: The group I was in was Anna Moneypenny (I know) and her student friends or there was the corrupt detective Kat Lawless (Yep super subtle) and her police officers.

The thing was the email which was sent on mass; so I got everyone who was going to be in the same groups e-mail addresses and they got mine. Now I know some of you may be thinking whats the problem there it's only an e-mail address. I have a few different e-mail addresses depending on how it will be used and thinking it would e used responsibly I gave out my personal one. You'll either get why I'm pissed of at this or you won't.

Anyway they had included outfit suggestions for all 6 characters in the e-mail meaning before the mystery had even started I knew one women was with the Russian mafia, one guy was with the Italian mafia, that the police were corrupt and that the bouncer was actually an under cover agent. Taking into account that I was in another character group, I now knew alot about 5 of the 6 characters before we had even started.

So going in with low expectations the night began...
Free drink on entry; hazzah
It was explained that there would be four rounds of 30 mins with a break after two for a buffet.
Each round would add more clues to who had done the murder most foul.
Now we were given secrets that we should only divulge if asked directly, as well as some misinformation to through people off.
If I am totally honest I may not of been taking it very seriously and defiantly took the misinformation to a higher level, add to that a sarcastic tone and a couple of groups were very confused.

An example of this was there was a night club up for sale that is where the murder happened, so people were asking if your character was looking to buy it now the owner had turned up dead. Baring in mind my character is a chemistry student my response of " well the student loan was pretty big this year, so yeah I'm thinking about buying the club" should not of been taken seriously but people were writing that shit down!
It was at that point I realised that I could have more fun playing my own game of causing chaos than trying to solve the murder.
I was like a mischievous little devil whispering from people shoulders. It got to the point that after round 3 the corrupt detective felt the need to get up and try to denounce the rumour that his character Kat Lawless was the stations bike; not helped by the MC getting confused and rather than denouncing it, confirmed it. The other officers in round one said they called her Kit kat; I made the classic rugby player joke of " cause four fingers" that was the beginning of that rumour which was nurtured during rounds 2/3.
By round four I had come to the conclusion it was a terminator sent back from the future, based on the evidence that there had been a power fluctuation just before the murder and that ... well mainly that, also it would of been awesome if the organisers had put in that twist.

So turns out the murder was a Mr d' Deadly who had connection to the Italian Mafia but that the over 5 also all wanted to kill the victim and just hadn't gotten round to it yet. Madness.

So anyway overall I had fun mainly due to gin and tonics, good company and causing mild chaos.
Would I do one again ? Maybe actually cause like many things in life you don't know until you try it if you'll have fun.

This post was longer and more rambling than I had planned but oh well

also have any of you been to one of these type of evenings ? if so what was it like ? Maybe you went to a professionally run one, would good to hear how they differ.
